Samsung Unveils 'Galaxy Pocket' Smartphone

Samsung launched a compact sized budget Android smartphone – Galaxy Pocket. The device features 2.8 inch touchscreen with 240x320 pixels of resolution, is powered by 832 MHz single core processor and runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system.

The device is scheduled to hit the UK market later this year than to other countries. Much specification is not available, but it features 3 GB of internal memory, a microSD card slot for expanding memory, 2 MP rear camera and for connectivity it will have Wi-Fi, 3G, GPRS, Bluetooth, HSDPA and micro USB 2.0.

  

The Galaxy Pocket will be the company’s cheapest Android smartphone; the company has not yet revealed the price details. As of now the Galaxy Y is the company’s cheapest Android smartphone which costs around Rs.7500.

Samsung 'Galaxy Beam': A Projector Smartphone

The Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2012 started today and Samsung has already announced an updated version of Galaxy Beam smartphone one day before the event at Barcelona.

The Galaxy Beam is not just a smartphone it is a mini portable projector too.  It is different from other smartphones with its built in ‘ultra-bright’ 15 lumens projector which can project up to 50 inch wide on a wall, ceilings or on any flat surfaces.

The device is powered by 1 GHz dual core processor, 786 MB of RAM and runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system. The device also comes with an 5.0 MP rear camera with autofocus and LED flash, 1.3 MP front facing camera, 8 GB of internal memory, microSD card slot for expandable memory up to 32GB and for connectivity it has Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, microUSB and GPS.

Samsung has planted a new surprise for gadget lover at MWC which is happening in Barcelona; Samsung’s new Galaxy Note 10.1 is going to be a real tablet with its 10.1-inch 1280×800 resolution screen and the new S-Pen which comes with improved pressure-sensitive "pen" hardware and new supporting apps.

Galaxy Note 10.1 has a 1 GHz dual-core CPU, 1 GB of RAM, a 3-megapixel camera on the back and a VGA on the front. The device runs on Android 4.9 and sprots Bluetooth 3.0, USB 2.0, Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct, in 8, 16 and 32GB models and is upgradable with microSD card up to 32GB. There is also a new 7-inch model of the device which has a 1024×600 pixel screen, all other specifications are similar to 10.1 inch model.

Samsung says Galaxy Note 10.1 will appear in the market by the second quarter of 2012, the price details are not announced yet. The company has also launched a new projector cum smartphone named “Galaxy Beam”at the event.

Samsung launched a new series of advanced SD and microSD cards, ideal for digital imaging and mobile devices. These SD card looks beautiful and stylish with a brushed metal design, along with style it also delivers speed up to 24 MBps and comes with capacity range of 2 GB to 32GB.

“It is our goal at Samsung to deliver superior performance, reliability and a stylish design across our entire product lines, including our memory line,” said Reid Sullivan, Senior VP, Samsung.

The new series of SD and MicroSD cards contain seven models as a part of Samsung’s High Speed Series and Plus Extreme Speed Series ranging up to 32GB of storage. The cards are also waterproof, shockproof and magnet proof. These memory cards are currently available only in U.S. at a price range of $9.99 to $89.99; the company has not yet announced the price and availability of these good looking rugged cards in India.

Samsung's Ultrabooks Available on Web

Samsungs new Series 9 ultrabooks are now available for Pre-Order through online retail sites like Best Buy and CompUSA.

Samsung's Series 9 are the leading models defining the ultrabook category, the Series 9 includes 13 and 15 inch ultrabooks and the 15 inch model will be the first to hit the market in its size category.

These Series 9 ultrabooks were launched last month at Consumer Electronics Show 2012 in Las Vegas. Both 13 and 15 inch model ultrabooks are powered by 1.6 GHz Intel i5 processor, Intel HD 3000 graphics card, 128 GB SSD and runs on Windows 7 operating system. Both models have 1600x900 screen resolutions, 500 GB of hard disk, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, webcam, USB, built in SD card reader and HDMI port. The 13 inch model has 4 GB of RAM weighting just 1.13 kilograms and the 15 inch model comes with 8 GB of RAM weighting 1.7 kilograms.

Currently these ultrabook are available only in U.S. The 13 inch model will cost $1399 and the 15 inch model will cost $1499. In India the price of these ultrabooks is estimated to be around 55000 to 80000 and its availability is not confirmed yet.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 680 is Now Available in India

Samsung launched another Honeycomb based tablet called, ‘Galaxy Tab 680’ in India which was previously known as Galaxy Tab 7.7 globally. Online retailer, Flipkart has put up the new Galaxy Tab 680 for sale at Rs.33,571.

The device is powered by 1.4 GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM and runs on Android 3.2 Honeycomb operating system. It sports 7.7 inch super AMOLED plus touchscreen display with 1280x800 pixels of resolution, 3 MP rear camera with LED flash, 2 MP front facing camera and a powerful 5100 mAh battery which is capable up to 49 hours of run time on 2G and 27 hours on 3G. The interesting features is that you can make voice calls and even send SMS using GSM-SIM card.

The tablet also offers 16GB of in-built storage and for connectivity; the tablet supports HSDPA, dual band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G. The device comes in two variant Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi+3G models.

Samsung launched the Galaxy Tab 2, the company’s first tablet running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

This new Tablet is powered by 1 GHz dual core processor, 1 GB of RAM. It features a 7 inch touchscreen with 1024x600 pixels of resolution, 3 MP rear camera, VGA front facing camera for video calls & chats and 16 or 32 GB internal memory. For connectivity it has 3.5 mm audio jack, a micro SD card slot for expanding memory, Bluetooth 3.0, USB, Wi-Fi, GPS and 3G.

The device is available in 3G and Wi-Fi versions, the company has not yet confirmed the price and availability in India but it is expected to be quite affordable costing around Rs.25000.

Samsung Galaxy S2 HD is on the way to launch?

Samsung, after receiving huge success from smartphone market, now is planning to release the latest version of its Galaxy S2 smartphone; it might be called the Galaxy S2 HD, a report said.

The Galaxy S2 has been a gigantic sense for the company, so it makes sense for them to acquire benefit on its hit by introducing a superior model of the Android handset.

It appears that’s closely what the South Korean mobile maker is doing because online giant merchant Mobi-City has placed the snapshot of Galaxy S2 HD to their web page. The unexpected device has possibly emerged on their web by fault, but whatever the motive it seems far-fetched.

Samsung Series 5 Ultrabooks Up for Pre-ordering

Samsung launched its Series 5 Ultrabooks in Korea a month ago and is planning to enter the world market after CES 2012 where Samsung will be showcasing these new breed of laptops which are designed according to Intel’s specifications. U.S. market will be the first one to have these ultrabooks as the online shopping portal J&R showed the pre-order option on Wednesday which was taken back from the website after a short while.

According to PCWorld “the laptops were probably taken down because there’s no estimated arrival date for the laptops. J&R has ordered 50 of each model, but Samsung hasn’t provided a delivery date yet”.  Even if it’s not clear when these thin, light weight and speedy devices will be available, but their price has become quite evident.  The 13.3 inch model will be available for $899.99 and the 14inch model for $949.99. In India the price of these ultrabooks is estimated to be around Rs. 55000 to Rs. 60000 and its availability is not confirmed yet.

Both the variants of this ultrabook have similar specifications; dual-core 1.6GHz Intel Core i5-2467M processors, 4GB of DDR3 memory, 500GB hard disk/16GB SSD hybrid drive, 1366 x 768 resolution, integrated Intel graphics, WiFi, Bluetooth, HDMI output, a 4-in-1 card slot, two USB 2.0 ports. The 14inch gets an optical drive while 13inch gets a USB 3.0 instead.

Other players in the industry like Toshiba, Asus, HP, Acer and Lenovo will give a tuff competition to Samsung with their upcoming models of ultrabooks like Toshiba’s Portege Z830, Asus’s UX31, HP’s Folio, Acer’s Aspire S3, and Lenovo’s IdeaPad respectively.  Apple is also coming up with its new model of Macbook Air which will make the competition more killing.

Samsung Galaxy Ace plus: One more into the GALAXY Family

Samsung Galaxy Ace plus is the sequel of Samsung Galaxy Ace which was a well-liked mid ranged Android phone. This improvised version of Galaxy Ace has a 1GHz processor, a 3GB of user memory, 512 MB of RAM, a 1300 mAh battery and comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread along with Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface.

There is no information about its availability and price in India. It is expected to arrive in Russian market from January 2012, and progressively during the year it will reach other markets like Europe, CIS, Latin America, Southeast and Southwest Asia, the Middle East, Africa and China.

Samsung Unveils Dual Screen Wi-Fi Camera

Samsung has launched a new dual view digital camera, DV300F. It is the fifth addition to the dual LCD camera series and the first one to have Wi-Fi connectivity in its range.

The camera offers 16.4 MP, 5X wide-angle optical zoom lens and it has CCD sensor with 3 inch display at the back and 1.5 inch front LCD display. The camera also features optical image stabilization, ISO up to 3200, DLNA support, in-built GPS module for image Geo tagging, 720 pixels of HD video recording at 30 frames per second and expandable memory up to 32GB. The camera also has AV out port, mini USB port, built in microphones and speakers.

 The Wi-Fi addition to this camera allows users to upload photos and videos directly from the camera to Facebook, PhotoBucket, Picasa, Flickr and YouTube. You can also transfer photos and videos wirelessly to a PC or to cloud storage services like Microsoft SkyDrive. The Samsung has also introduced a free Samsung Remote ViewFinder app for Android and iOS devices to remotely control this camera.

The price details for this Dual Screen Wi-Fi camera in India is not yet disclosed, it is expected to be around Rs. 10,600 to 12,500 and it will be available in the first quarter of 2012.

Samsung Galaxy S and Tab, No Ice Cream Sandwich for You!

The latest version of Google’s Mobile Operating System - Ice Cream Sandwich or Android 4.0- will not be available for Galaxy S and the 7-inch Galaxy Tab. In late November Samsung promised an up-gradation of OS for both Galaxy S and Tab, which now seems to be broken. The reason behind this omission of up-gradation is due to the additional software features in these devices like TouchWiz, widgets, video calling and carrier software pack-ins. TouchWiz is given the major blame due to which these devices doest have enough RAM or ROM to contain all Samsung-designed accoutrements without affecting the quality of use.

The confusing fact is that Galaxy S is very much similar to the recently launched Galaxy Nexus which runs on Android 4.0. Samsung explains that “Nexus runs solely on Android without the addition of Samsung’s TouchWiz UI. Hence, the Galaxy S would probably not be able to cope with the implementation of ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich), along with TouchWiz”. As there is no problem with Galaxy S’s 1-GHz Cortex A8 processor or RAM, which are perfectly capable to run the Android 4.0, its Samsung’s UI that obstructs Galaxy S from having the ICS update.  This point out the fact that if TouchWiz is removed from Galaxy S, the device might be capable of running the vanilla version of Ice Cream Sandwich without much trouble even though the experience will not that perfect. 

There is going to be a vex in the minds of Samsung Smartphone and Tablet users due the barring of Ice Cream Sandwich for Galaxy S and Tab. Users are expecting a third party developer to come up with some new techniques to make these devices portable with the new OS. Other players like Motorola and HTC will be coming up with their ICS updates for their Smartphone and Tablets in another three to six months.

Samsung's New Smart HDTV: Mobile Controlled, Remotes Ditched

Samsung will be showcasing its new Smart TV market at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) Las Vegas, 2012. Samsung plans to make Smartphone controlled Smart TV like Goolge TV and omit the remote system from the TV culture.

The teaser video for the show demonstrates its 50 years of advancement in the television industry and concludes its future by making Smartphone’s and Smart TV’s compactable with each other. Google TV never acquired the desire expectation and people considered it to be a jumble of good ideas assembled in an unsorted, complex box.  As Samsung has raised its bar as an expert in the Smart TV and Android segment the expectations from this upcoming new Smart HDTV is also high. There is an uncertainty regarding the present line of Smart TV’s from Samsung which runs on its well know Bada OS, the speculation is that Samsung will be providing both the OS in the hardware to tackle its Bade OS and Android Smartphone users. 

Apple’s yet to come Smart HDTV will be a stiff competitor for the Android TV. Along with this new vertical there is an unexplored industry ‘the Smart TV Apps’ and Samsung claims 2 million downloads for Smart TV.  Presently the potential of Smart TV market is uncertain; with the entry of Android and Apple into this industry in the coming year we will be able gather a high definition image.

Samsung all set to launch Galaxy Y pro Duos.  After the introduction of Galaxy Y Pro, Samsung is now launching dual SIM version of Galaxy Y Pro. The new Galaxy Y Pro Duos look very much similar to Galaxy Y Pro which was launched in August. The device has front facing camera like Galaxy Y Pro. Samsung has design this Smartphone for the users who are deeply involved into messaging and emailing. The price and the availability of the device are yet too decided. The device has integrated social networking which will allow the users to stay connected all the time even while travelling. The professional features are also there where the users can view and edit office documents.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus Available on Verizon

Ever since we reviewed the excellent Samsung Galaxy Nexus Smartphone, everyone’s been wondering, when will it appear on Verizon? Now it’s finally official: The on-again/off-again Smartphone, which we think is the best Android phone ever produced, will be available on Verizon starting Thursday, Dec. 15 for Rs. 16,236 with a two-year contract. This Verizon version will be capable of using a 4G LTE network. If you are lucky enough to live in one of Verizon’s 190 markets with 4G LTE in the United States, the phone can download data at speeds of 5 to 12 Megabits (Mb) per second, and upload at speeds of 2Mb to 5Mb per second.

If Verizon’s network proves it to be as fast as the company says it is in your area, with this Smartphone you will be able to use the Internet at speeds similar to that of home broadband. The Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus will have the new Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) operating system on board, along with all the other high-tech capabilities that make it so appealing. For instance, the features that are the best were its 4.65-inch 720p screen that has a delightful curved design, and its 9.47mm-thin form factor that felt just right in the hand and pocket. According to Verizon, besides that Rs. 16,236 price for the phone, a subscription to a Verizon Wireless Nationwide Talk plan is required, with prices starting at Rs2,164 per month. In addition, you will need a data plan, priced at a minimum Rs. 1,624 per month for 2GB of data.

It is figured that the monthly tariff is not including the phone, fees and tax will start at Rs. 3,792, but if you figure in the cost of the phone, over a two-year contract you will be paying a total of Rs. 1,07,274, or Rs. 4,469per month, not including taxes and fees. Sounds expensive, but Smartphone’s are not cheap — even so, over a 2-year contract the Galaxy Nexus is about Rs. 20,591 cheaper than the lowest-priced Verizon iPhone 4S.

Samsung is preparing to unveil a new Galaxy Tab with retina display, which is regarded as the best so far and is a rumor because only Apple is an expert in this.  This will be an 11.6 inch tablet with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system running underneath. Retina display is known for its high pixel density due to which the human eye is unable to distinguish individual pixels. It will be unveiled in February but the price is not revealed yet.

If the display produces images in about 300 pixels per inch, then it is known as retina display. At this pixel density, images look sharp on the display. The new Samsung tablet is believed to have an 11.6 inch screen, with a 2,560 x 1,600 resolution, almost equal to retina display.

It is also believed to come with 2GHz dual-core Exynos 5250 CPU and a 16:10 aspect ratio. The device is said to have a "special wireless docking mode" which will allow the users to enjoy gaming on HDTVs. Retina Display currently is available on iPhone 4 where images are seen in 960x640-pixel resolution. The phone is available for 34,000 in India. The next tablet from Apple, iPad 3 will also have retina display in them.

Samsung has unveiled an Android phone, named SCH-W999, in China. Samsung SCH-W999 is expected to be launched sometime in 2012, but there are no specific details on it or about the price.

It is a flip phone with two 3.5 inches Super Amoled 480 x 800 pixel displays. It is based on Android 2.3 operating system. The phone will also feature TouchWiz interface (Samsung's customized Android user interface) on both displays. Another important aspect of this phone is support for two SIMs, one CDMA and the other GSM, with support for 3G through both.

The phone packs a dual-core 1.2 GHz Qualcomm MSN8660 processor, a 5 megapixel rear camera with flash, autofocus and 4x digital zoom, dual SIM card slots, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. The phone is likely to be available in China only, at least for the time being, and is not likely to be cheap since the SCH-W999 is the successor of the W899, which costs around $1400 (about Rs. 72,000).

The phone is not going to be made available in India any time soon, not just because it is expensive but also because flip phones have not worked well here.

Samsung Galaxy SIII Launches in February

Samsung is planning to hit the market with a new version of the same device with new features, named as Galaxy SIII. The Galaxy SIII will be announced in February 2012.

The Samsung Galaxy SIII is also expected to come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, 1 GB of RAM and 4.6 inch Super Amoled Plus HD display with 1280X720 pixels resolution. The other likely features in this device would be 12 mega pixel camera and support for NFC (near field communication) and LTE (long term evolution).

 

The device will come with Samsung Exynos 4412 quad core processor which will have 1.5 GHz clock speed. Using quad core processor makes sense for Samsung as other handset makers such as HTC have also begun using quad core Nvidia Tegra 3 processors.

The handset may come with an improved GPU (graphics processing unit) which will perform five times better than the earlier Mali graphics processor. The device is also likely to have flexible OLED (organic light emitting diode) screens which use less power and are thinner than the usual LCD screens.

It is expected that the user interface of the device would be TouchWiz UI, because the usual Android UI now anyway has many features which are offered by TouchWiz also.
