Nokia Lumia Strikes Sales

Nokia has sold over 1 million Windows Phone based on its Lumia smartphone series in the fourth quarter of 2011, says Bloomberg. Bloomberg came up with this fact as result of a survey which was conducted on 22 different analysts, who predicted the sale of Windows Phone based Lumia smartphone in the end of 2011.

Only one among 22 analysts predicted that Nokia has sold less than 1 million Lumia smartphones in 2011, so on an average analyst sales prediction ranges between 8 lakh to 2 million. Therefore the average sale of Nokia Lumia smartphone line ups could be 1.3 million units in the fourth quarter of 2011.

Nokia Lumia 710 and Lumia 800 were launched in U.S. and Europe in October 2011. In December Lumia was shipped to India with a price tag of Rs.19,000 for Lumia 710 and Rs.29,000 for Lumia 800. Lumia 900 is the latest addition in the Lumia line up, which was launched in CES 2012; its availability and price in Indian market is not revealed yet.

Within a short period Lumia smartphones have gained the respect which Nokia had lost with Google’s Android devices by other manufacturers like Samsung, LG, HTC and Motorola. Well Nokia has not commented anything on the prediction of analysts; we have to wait two more days to know the exact figures as Nokia is going announce its latest earnings on January 26.

Beware of Fake iPhones!

The iPhone5, the most awaited product of Apple is available in China Market with one obvious condition ‘it’s fake’.   This fact was revealed when a sudden sweep of electronics markets was done recently by Fuzhou authorities and discovered vendors who are selling this ‘all-new iPhone 5’ named “Hi iPhone5”.

China market already has a perfect fake of iPhone 4 named SoPhone. This SoPhone looks exactly similar to the original iPhone and has features like “Multitasking”, search, and even moving “apps” into folders with drag-and-drop companied with an original looking UI. This fake phone is powered by MTK6235 chipset, and comes with a 3.5-inch (480 X 320) capacitive touchscreen, 4GB of flash storage, front and rear camera with 2 megapixels, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and removable 1400mAh battery. However it dosen’t have retina display, a micro SD card slot and also lags in battery performance. These fake phones cost around 2,000 yuan ($313) to produce and are sold around 4,000 yuan ($626), which is just only few dollars cheaper than original iPhones.

Moreover there is a report which says that there are fake Apple stores in China, which sells all fake Apple products. The look a feel of these stores are so similar to original Apple stores that customers are can’t make out.  This fakery issue in China has caused concern for the brand image of Apple as people started complaining that Apple is selling used iPhone as new.

The recent reaction of Beijing customers due to the delay in the launch of iPhone4S shows how desperate and eager they are to have an Apple iPhone4S. Customers pelted eggs on Apple store shouting ‘Liars’ as the store was not opened on the launch day due to security reasons.  So there lies a market of people who want to have this tech-luxury but can’t afford or is price sensitive and the fakes rule this market.

Nokia Lumia 900

Nokia and AT&T announced the first LTE (Long-Term Evolution) enabled Windows Phone, Nokia Lumia 900 for the U.S. market. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer who made a surprise appearance at AT&T developer summit in CES 2012 said that AT&T would be the first to offer LTE with Windows Phones.

Lumia 900 looks very similar to Lumia 800 and has 4.3 inch touchscreen AMOLED ClearBlack display at 800×480 pixels of resolution. Lumia 900 is powered by 1.4 GHz processor and 512 MB RAM. It also has a stunning 8 MP camera rear camera with Carl Zeiss optics, LED flash and a front facing camera. Officially Nokia has not yet revealed the specification, availability and price of this device.

Along with Nokia Lumia 900, AT&T announced HTC Titan II to have LTE network with Windows Phone OS for the U.S. market. HTC Titan II features 16 MP rear camera with dual flash and 1.3 MP front facing camera for video chat. It’s powered by 1.5 GHz Snapdragon processor and 4.7 inch touchscreen display. This phone also features HSPA+, Wi-Fi. Bluetooth and more detail specifications are not yet revealed by HTC. It is expected HTC Titan II will hit the market before Nokia 900.

AT&T has also announced other six new Android devices with LTE network including Samsung Galaxy Note and waterproof tablet from Pantech.

Nokia’s Lumia 800 (Rs.29,999) has already reached Indian market and we expect to see Lumia 900 soon, but Indian customers will not able to use the device’s full potential due to the lack to 4G technology in India.

Samsung Galaxy S2 HD is on the way to launch?

Samsung, after receiving huge success from smartphone market, now is planning to release the latest version of its Galaxy S2 smartphone; it might be called the Galaxy S2 HD, a report said.

The Galaxy S2 has been a gigantic sense for the company, so it makes sense for them to acquire benefit on its hit by introducing a superior model of the Android handset.

It appears that’s closely what the South Korean mobile maker is doing because online giant merchant Mobi-City has placed the snapshot of Galaxy S2 HD to their web page. The unexpected device has possibly emerged on their web by fault, but whatever the motive it seems far-fetched.

Motorola has announced two new smartphones, Motoluxe and Defy Mini. These two devices run on Android Gingerbread delivering a solid smartphone experience.

The Motoluxe features 4 inch FWVGA (Full Wide Video Graphics Array) edge to edge display with Moto switch user interface and 480x854 pixels of resolution, 8 MP rear camera with LED flash, front facing VGA camera. The device is powered by 800 MHz single core Scorpion processor, 512 MB of RAM and runs on Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread. It also features Wi-Fi, GPS, HSDPA, Bluetooth, micro USB and 3.5 mm audio jack for connectivity. It has sensors like accelerometer, proximity and compass.

Motorola Launches Smartphones

 Motorola Defy Mini looks like the follow up of original Defy with smaller display. It comes with 3.2" HVGA display with Gorilla Glass. The device is powered by 600 MHz processor, 512 MB RAM and runs on Android Gingerbread. This device also offers dust proof, water resistant, scratch resistant capabilities as the original Defy model. It has a 3 MP camera and front facing VGA camera, 3G, Wi-Fi, HSDPA, Bluetooth, GPS and DLAN.

Motorola will offer these two smartphones for Android lovers with affordable price. However the price details are not at disclosed but the company will confirm the price and availability of these smartphones after CES 2012.

Nokia Launches Dual-Sim Phones in India

Targeting the middle and low level segment in India, Nokia has launched three new affordable mobiles devices in India. Nokia introduced its first Asha series to the Indian market with Asha 200 and Asha 300 along with an addition to X series, X2-02.

Asha 200 is Nokia’s first dual-sim with QWERTY keypad with 2.4 inch display powered by S40 operating system. Other features like 2 MP camera with 4X zoom, dual-sim capability with dual stand by, Bluetooth, enhanced stereo FM radio with recording. Asha 200 is now available in India at Rs. 4349.

It also has dedicated keys for sim management and messaging. With sim management key you can manage and personalize up to 5 sim cards with specific ringtones and themes, by this you can simply change the sim card and no need to set up every time. The dedicated messaging key offers one click access to email and chat through Nokia messaging or social networking sites Facebook.

Asha 300 features 2.4 inch QVGA resistive touchscreen display along with keypad and 5 MP camera, powered by 1 GHz processor, 128 MB RAM, 140 MB of internals storage and it can be expandable up to 32 GB. This touch and type is available at the price of Rs. 7,409.

The other mobile Nokia X2-02 is launched along with Asha series, it also offers dual-sim with sim management options as in Asha 200. It also features 2 MP camera and FM radio, 32 GB expandable memory and runs on S40 OS. This device is available for Rs. 3,599.

Nokia also offers 3 months subscription to Nokia’s Music Store with the purchase of all these handsets. These three mobiles come with DRM (Digital Right Management) music service which gives access to 40 lakh legal digital sound track from Nokia.

Samsung Galaxy Ace plus: One more into the GALAXY Family

Samsung Galaxy Ace plus is the sequel of Samsung Galaxy Ace which was a well-liked mid ranged Android phone. G'Five Cuts Mobile Price up to 30 Percent

 Mobile handset maker G'Five said it has slashed product prices between 10-30 percent across the board against the current trend of hiking rates by competitors due to depreciating rupee.

"G'Five is one of the biggest manufacture of mobile handsets in China. Unlike other companies, we don't need to buy from a third party. Though depreciating value of rupee has certainly impacted our margin but by slashing prices we are looking at large volume business," Managing Director of Kingtech Electronics, a G'Five group company, Arshit Pathak told the news agency.

 He said that company has reduced prices on each model and the lowest price model is below Rs. 1,000 and high end model from company is in range of Rs. 4,500.

"Our low end phone have camera, 1.8 inch screen, music player and other feature phones. There prices have gone down below Rs. 1,000. Our high end phone is a projector phone which was earlier prices over Rs. 6,000 and now we are selling it for Rs. 4,500," Pathak said.

He said that first was option was to pass on the burden on to consumers but brands that have done so are not in good shape.

Explaining rationale behind the reduction in price, Pathak said that the company has adopted view that it should decrease prices when other companies are increasing their handset prices to increase the price gap with them.

Also, the company does not see new consumers adding to mobile subscriber base in the country

"The new subscriber addition has fallen drastically. This means all addressable market is connected but we all know first time buyers are not coming for certain reason. Low end market is impacted by lot of economic condition. We want to make phone affordable for them to connect," Pathak said.

He added that sales of handset reflects addition of new subscribers and in India where teledensity is still low acquisition of new customer can only drive business growth.

Maxx Mobiles announced the launch of a new multimedia feature phone, named Primo MX428, which promises longer battery life. This will be the latest addition to Maxx Mobiles' "Big Battery Series".  The bar designed Maxx Primo comes with an 1800 mAh battery, which offers up to 30 days of stand-by time.

Motorola XT615 Launches in India

Motorola has launched its latest Android Smartphone 'XT615' in Taiwan and is soon likely to launch it here in India at an expected price of Rs. 17,500. The phone offers a unique proposition with a large 4 inch screen, 8 megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a front facing camera for video calling.

MTS, RCom and Tata Docomo to Launch Curve 9350

Research In Motion (RIM) has joined hands with CDMA operators MTS, Tata Docomo and RCom to launch a BlackBerry 7 OS Smartphone — the Curve 9350, in India on December 1. BlackBerry 7 OS based Smartphone Curve 9350 will be available to Indian users from December 1, bundled with MTS, Tata Docomo and RCom connections.

The three operators will come out with special data plans for Curve 9350 when they launch it. Though the release date is mentioned, the price of the device is not yet revealed.

The BlackBerry Curve 9350 is the first CDMA-based BlackBerry 7 Smartphone to be launched in India. It is ergonomically designed with a comfortable and iconic keyboard for fast, accurate typing, and has an optical trackpad for easy, one-handed navigation.

On the connectivity, it has GPS and WiFi support. It also has a 5 megapixel camera with flash and video recording which can directly be shared on social networks. Curve 9350 has an internal memory of 512 MB and supports up to 32 GB memory cards for additional media storage.

In the past, RCom had come out with an impressive bundled plan and even offered handsets virtually for free if subscribers agreed to use a particular tariff plan for a particular time period. We can expect the same offering been given to RCom's Curve 9350 users. MTS has confirmed the availability of Curve 9350 on its network, but has not disclosed the launch date and tariff plans for the Smartphone.
