Nokia 808: A Monstrous 41MP Camera Phone

The Mobile World Congress 2012 (MWC) kicked off at Barcelona on February 27 and Nokia announced a slew of new phones at the event. The company introduced a camera phone ‘Nokia 808’ with jaw dropping 41 megapixels of sensor.

The Nokia 808 is the largest announcement by the company at MWC. The high density 41 megapixels sensor camera comes with Carl Zeiss lens, Xenon flash and a new oversampling technology. This sensor enables to select from various megapixels options while taking pictures like 5 MP, 8 MP and up to 32 MP. It means the image will be with more pixels to work after zooming and cropping the image.

The camera can also record full HD videos at 1080 pixel and comes with Nokia Rich Recording that offers CD like audio quality. The Nokia 808 is the first mobile to have CD like audio quality without the support of external mic, previously CD like audio quality was only possible using an external mic.
The 808 is a Symbian Belle based phone, packed with 4 inch AMOLED touchscreen featuring its own CleatBlack technology for better viewing at sunlight. It’s powered by ARM single-core 1.3 GHz processor, 512 MB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, can be expandable up to 48 GB via microSD card. For connectivity it has Bluetooth, Near Field Connection (NFC), GPRS, Wi-Fi, 3G, micro USB and USB on-the-go support.

Along with Nokia 808 Pure View camera phone, the company has also introduced two new Windows Phone based Lumia smartphone – an entry level Lumia 610 and a high end Lumia 900.

The entry level Lumia 610 comes with 3.7 inch WVGA TFT touchscreen, 5 MP camera with autofocus and LED flash. It is powered 800 MHz processor and 256 MB of RAM. It also features 8 GB internal memory and for connectivity it has Bluetooth, USB, Wi-Fi, GPRS and GPS.

The Lumia 900 was already launched at Consumer Electronics Show 2012 in Las Vegas and now Nokia introduced the non-American version of Lumia 900 at MWC. 

The Nokia 808 Pure View is expected to be priced at Rs.29725, Lumia 610 for Rs.12484 and the Lumia 900 would be around Rs.31705. All these phones are expected to hit the market by May 2012.

Samsung 'Galaxy Beam': A Projector Smartphone

The Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2012 started today and Samsung has already announced an updated version of Galaxy Beam smartphone one day before the event at Barcelona.

The Galaxy Beam is not just a smartphone it is a mini portable projector too.  It is different from other smartphones with its built in ‘ultra-bright’ 15 lumens projector which can project up to 50 inch wide on a wall, ceilings or on any flat surfaces.

The device is powered by 1 GHz dual core processor, 786 MB of RAM and runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system. The device also comes with an 5.0 MP rear camera with autofocus and LED flash, 1.3 MP front facing camera, 8 GB of internal memory, microSD card slot for expandable memory up to 32GB and for connectivity it has Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, microUSB and GPS.

Samsung has planted a new surprise for gadget lover at MWC which is happening in Barcelona; Samsung’s new Galaxy Note 10.1 is going to be a real tablet with its 10.1-inch 1280×800 resolution screen and the new S-Pen which comes with improved pressure-sensitive "pen" hardware and new supporting apps.

Galaxy Note 10.1 has a 1 GHz dual-core CPU, 1 GB of RAM, a 3-megapixel camera on the back and a VGA on the front. The device runs on Android 4.9 and sprots Bluetooth 3.0, USB 2.0, Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct, in 8, 16 and 32GB models and is upgradable with microSD card up to 32GB. There is also a new 7-inch model of the device which has a 1024×600 pixel screen, all other specifications are similar to 10.1 inch model.

Samsung says Galaxy Note 10.1 will appear in the market by the second quarter of 2012, the price details are not announced yet. The company has also launched a new projector cum smartphone named “Galaxy Beam”at the event.

RIM Launches Upgraded PlayBook OS in India

Canadian BlackBerry-maker Research in Motion (RIM), battling tough competition from Apple's iPad, launched PlayBook OS 2.0, an upgraded version of the operating system for its PlayBook tablet, in the Indian market.

"The upgraded version has people-centric calendar and a range of new communications .
and productivity enhancements as well as expanded app and content support," said Ranjan Moses, carrier product manager, RIM.

"And with this we see a huge uptake happening."

Asked about the slow take-off of BlackBerry PlayBook in market, Moses said: "Any new technology that comes takes a bit of time. Its just that now we need to look at how we are bringing the device into the market."

The smartphone maker has been struggling to gain significant market share since April last year when it launched the tablets. RIM shipped 150,000 PlayBook tablets during the quarter ended November.

In comparison, Apple sold over 15.43 million iPads during the quarter ended Dec 31.

The new operating system features integrated e-mail solution where users have the option to use a unified inbox consolidating all messages from Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter as well as personal and work emails in one place.

The OS also provides improved mobile productivity with updated document editing functions and increased control and manageability of corporate data with BlackBerry Balance and is available for free download for all BlackBerry PlayBook tablets.

iBerry Auxus AX02 will have a 7 inch screen with 800 x 480 pixel resolution with capacitive touch based input, 1 GHz processor with dedicated graphics engine for better graphic capabilities, 1 GB of DDR2 RAM, HDMI output and will also sport a 3G USB modem. The tablet will also have gyro based motion sensor for better gaming experience.



The tablet will be running on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) operating system and will have a memory capacity of 32 GB which is expandable via microSD cards. The device will also feature mini USB ports.


The company is all set to launch this affordable high-performing tablet in the month of March all over India through online retail network and retail sale partners covering various cities. The device will come with a one year comprehensive on-site warranty for reliable servicing.

HP introduced its first business class ultrabook ‘HP Folio 13’ which is designed to bridge the gap between professional and personal life. The Folio 13 features a thin and light design with strong security options and provides an ultimate mobile experience.

The ultrabook is powered by 1.6 MHz Intel Core i5 processor, 4 GB of DDR3 RAM, integrated with Intel Graphic 3000 chipset and it also includes Intel’s Rapid Start Technology (RST) which helps to save time while booting and runs fast. These memory cards are currently available only in U.S. at a price range of $9.99 to $89.99; the company has not yet announced the price and availability of these good looking rugged cards in India.
