Now Sign Into Microsoft Account Without Password

U.S. tech giant Microsoft has announced a new feature wherein users can now just use their smartphone to sign in to their account.

The company is enabling the new option as part of the iOS and Android Microsoft Authenticator app.

"The process is easier than standard two-step verification and significantly more secure than only a password, which can be forgotten, phished, or compromised," said Alex Simons, Director of Program Management, Microsoft Identity Division, in a statement.

Just add your account to the Android or iOS Microsoft Authenticator app, then enter your username as usual when signing in somewhere new. Instead of entering your password, you will get a notification on your phone. Unlock your phone, tap "Approve", and you are in.

Using your phone to sign in with PIN or fingerprint is a seamless way to incorporate two account "proofs" in a way that feels natural and familiar, Simons added.

India Wins Elections To 2 UN Subsidiary Bodies

India has won elections to two subsidiary bodies of a UN organ focussed on social and economic issues. 

India, along with 12 other members, was elected to the Committee for Programme and Coordination (CPC), a subsidiary body of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The country garnered the most number of votes in the Asian group, with 49 out of 50 members of ECOSOC voting in its favour.

"India tops Asian group again @Un elections. 49 of 50 members of Economic & Social Council vote India to Committee for Program & Coordination,” India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Syed Akbaruddin tweeted yesterday.

The 13 members elected for three-year terms, beginning January 2018, include Burkina Faso, Iran, Japan, Pakistan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Moldova, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, the United Kingdom and United States.

The CPC is the main subsidiary organ of the Economic and Social Council and the General Assembly for planning, programming and coordination.

India, along with 19 other nations, was also elected by acclamation to the International Narcotics Control Board for a four-year term beginning January next year.

The 20 members included Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, Algeria, Afghanistan, Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, Croatia, Czech Republic, Russia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Cuba.

PM Modi To Launch UDAN Air Connectivity Scheme On April 27

Union Minister Jayant Sinha on Thursday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the government's air regional connectivity scheme -- UDAN -- on April 27.

Sinha disclosed this at the 11th edition of the Mindmine Summit organised by the Mindmine Institute, an independent think tank set up by Hero Enterprise.

"The aviation industry in India is a sunrise sector. We are working towards UDAN or 'Ude Desh ka har Nagarik', building efficient regional air connectivity, between the metros and the tier 3 and 4 cities like Shimla, Gorakhpur, Kanpur," Sinha said while addressing a session on 'India in 2017: More Roadbumps or Achhe Din?' at the summit.

"PM, Shri Modi will launch UDAN on 27th April and we will add 33 new airports across the small Indian cities in one year. This will be achieved with a subsidy of only 205 crore."

PM Modi is expected to launch the scheme at Jubbarhatti, located on the outskirts of Shimla on April 27.

Strangeloop President Joshua Bixby says, “Pages continue to get bigger and continue to have more requests,". "In some ways we're losing the battle--or maybe it's a stalemate. Bixby said, “Strangeloop's study uses a speed-testing tool called Webpagetest developed by Patrick Meenan, who started it at AOL but who now works for Google. That test adds delays called latency to round-trip communications to better simulate how ordinary people several steps removed from a Web site see it”.

Latency plays a big role in deciding the speed of website because it’s a problem when Web browser has to make multiple network connections to Web servers for new elements. Strangeloop’s study reveals that the complexity of Web pages is increasing at the same time as economization measures and browser speed are improving. The study also tells that out of 2,000 top retail Web sites 100 are slower on average- 10.36 seconds compared to 10.00 for the overall group and the reason is that these Web sites make 98 requests for resources such as images or JavaScript libraries, compared to 77 for the overall group.

Some other findings are; a repeat view of Web site which is supposed to be faster became slow this year by taking an average 6.20 seconds which was 5.10 seconds last year. IE9 is crowed as the fastest browsers taking an average of 7.12 seconds, followed by 7.15 seconds for Firefox 7, 7.5 seconds for Chrome, and 10 seconds for IE7.

AOL India Launches CoolAge For Indian Youth

AOL India has launched an online and mobile-web product for Indian colleges called CoolAge that allows each college to publish articles, stories, pictures and videos of all the activities that happen in their respective colleges.

India Dips in Global Corruption Ranking

If there's a question that what is holding back India's growth, corruption is the obvious answer. With worsening corruption rate over the past few years, India drops 11 positions to 95 in the Global Corruption Rankings, reveals the new study by Transparency International (TI), a Berlin-based anticorruption group.

India scored 3.1 on a scale to 0 to 10, according to the Transparency International's corruption perception index. India scored 3.3 last year, and anything below five is a bad news. Whereas, the neighboring countries like Pakistan and Nepal ranked at 134 and 154 respectively, apparently being the most corrupt nations in South Asia.

Being ranked at 95th position in the list, India is below China that scoring 3.6 points and ranked 75. The common Wealth Games last year and 2G spectrum allocations are the recent strings of corruption that have deteriorated the image of India.

183 countries were ranked according to the level of public sector corruption. India has only fared among the BRIC countries. But compared to South Asian region, India has done miserable when compared to Sri Lanka that ranked 86 and small Himalayan Kingdom of Nepal that ranked 38.

Rukshana Nanayakkara, acting director of Transparency International's Asia Pacific division quoted in an interview to Zeebiz, "It's not a good score at all for India." Amongst so much of negativity, there are few positive aspects of this evaluation. People are now enthusiastic to speak up against corruption and the limelight is on the movement that fights for a strong anti-corruption law in the country. The upper middle class in India has become intolerant towards corruption as they are most exposed to cases like bribery and are becoming outspoken of late.

The recent Anna Hazare "hungama" in India has taken up the fight against corruption to a different level altogether. This has forced the government to come up with a strict anti-corruption law. The Lokpal Bill, which stands as a synonym for anti-corruption, is under review in the current Parliament session.

New Zealand outshined as a corruption-free country and tops the list closely followed by Denmark and Finland at the second and third position. Sweden is fourth, while Singapore dropped down to fifth rank. Norway landed at the sixth position. All the top six countries have scored 9.0 or above.

Germany and Japan marked improvement than last year as they are tied at 14th. United States showed a dip as it is ranked at 24th, two nicks lower than 2010. Countries like Afghanistan, Myanmar, North Korea and Somalia are placed at the bottom of the list.

Microsoft Opens New Global Delivery Centre in Bangalore

Microsoft announced the expansion of its global consulting and enterprise services operations out of India: a new state-of-the-art Global Delivery centre, situated in the heart of Bangalore's business district. Kanimozhi granted bail by Delhi high court in 2G case

DMK MP Kanimozhi was on Monday granted bail by the Delhi high court in the 2G case. Apart from Kanimozhi, the other accused who have been granted bail include Cineyug founder Karim Morani, Kalaignar TV's MD Sharath Kumar, Kusegaon directors Asif Balwa and Rajeev Agarwal. However, former telecom secretary Siddharth Behura was denied bail.

The apex court had earlier granted bail to five corporte honchos in the case.

On Friday, the court had adjouorned the bail hearing to Monday.

The court had sought a clarification from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the defence on Section 409 (criminal breach of trust) of the IPC saying the Supreme Court judgement granting bail to five corporate executives was silent on a charge that attracts maximum punishment of life term in the case.

Justice VK Shali heard the day-long arguments on the bail applications of Kanimozhi, Kalaignar TV chief Sharad Kumar, Cineyug Films' Karim Morani, Kusegaon Fruits and Vegetables Pvt Ltd directors Asif Balwa and Rajiv B Agarwal and former telecom secretary Siddharth Behura.

"The Supreme Court judgement does not mention Section 409. I am not saying that the apex court was ignorant of the fact but it is silent on the issue," said Justice Shali.

"The day the order (on bail) was passed, charges were crystallised in the trial court and it cannot be said that this fact was not known to the Hon'ble Supreme Court."

Justice Shali referred to the judgement of the Supreme Court in the case and said it talked about maximum sentence of seven years which could be awarded to accused (corporate accused) if they are convicted.

Responding to the query of the judge, senior advocate Altaf Ahmed, who appeared for Kanimozhi, said the apex court was aware of charges framed also under Section 409 of the IPC and its order is binding on all courts.

Meanwhile, the CBI did not oppose the bail pleas of Kanimozhi and four others saying they were private persons.

However, it opposed Behura's plea saying being a public servant he misused his position.

The six co-accused had moved the court on Wednesday for early hearing of their bail applications after the Supreme Court granted bail to five corporate executives co-accused in the case -- Sanjay Chandra of Unitech Wireless, Vinod Goenka of Swan Telecom and Reliance Group's Gautam Doshi, Surendra Pipara and Hari Nair.

Following this, the pleas of the MP and the five others which were scheduled to have been heard on Dec 1 in the Delhi high court were brought forward to Friday.

After CBI Special Court Judge O.P. Saini rejected their bail pleas on Nov 3, they moved the high court on Nov 5. The special court dismissed their bail pleas despite the investigating agency not opposing their applications.

Counsel for Kanimozhi told the high court that the special court wrongly made a distinction between women belonging to various classes of society even when the provision did not seek to do that.

"Besides, the apex court had in June granted her the liberty to apply for bail after charges were framed in the case," she said.

During the hearing, the CBI read out a portion of the Supreme Court order granting bail to five corporate executives who are co-accused in the 2G case.

Behura was arrested along with former telecom minister A. Raja Feb 2, and since then he is languishing in Tihar Jail. Asif Balwa and Agarwal are in judicial custody since March 29.

On May 20, Kanimozhi and Sharad Kumar were also named as co-accused and sent to judicial custody. Ten days later Morani also joined them in jail.

Anna Hazare gets MCD nod for Ramlila Maidan stir

NEW DELHI: In a clear indication that Team Anna is unlikely to be satisfied by the recommendation of the parliamentary standing committee looking into the Lokpal bill and is planning to launch a fresh offensive, the activists have already sought permission from civic authorities to stage protests at Ramlila Maidan from December 27 besides holding rallies against a weak Lokpal from Monday.

Sources said Gandhian Anna Hazare has been given permission by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to protest at the Ramlila Maidan. The activists had applied to MCD two days ago for allocation of the ground, where Hazare had held a protest fast in August. Sources said permission had been sought to hold the protest from December 27 to January 5.

"We will hold the protest and it will be led by Hazare. It is not clear whether it will be a fast but there will be some form of agitation," a senior Team Anna member said.

The MCD permission is subject to a no-objection certificate from the police.

Team Anna has been adamant on the inclusion lower bureaucracy, citizens' charter and the PM within the ambit of the Lokpal. The report of the standing committee is expected by the middle of this week.

Hazare had earlier announced that he would re-launch the agitation on December 22 at the end of the winter session of Parliament if a strong Lokpal bill was not passed.

Maya condemns attack on Pawar

Chief Minister Mayawati has condemned the attack on Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar saying violence cannot be justified in democracy. But she added that time has come for Congress to listen to the voice of masses and reign in price rise.

"In democracy everyone has the right to speak. But it does not empower any person to use force. The assault on Sharad Pawar was a dastardly act and it should be condemned," Mayawati said in a statement issued here on Thursday.

The Chief Minister also cautioned the Congress-led UPA government on the uncontrolled prices. "The price rise is now a serious problem. The Congress should understand that resentment is brewing among people against the UPA government. It is high time that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should take steps to reign in the monster of price rise," she said.
